Please be informed that the LHQ3 system will undergo a scheduled server migration from 12:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. on August 9, 2026 (Hong Kong Time).

Due to the recent instability of the current server provider, the system will be migrated to a new server hosted in the AWS Hong Kong Region to improve its reliability and availability.

During the migration period, the LHQ3 system will be temporarily unavailable. All existing user accounts, questionnaires, and collected data retained in the system before 12:00 p.m. on August 9, 2026 (Hong Kong Time) will be fully preserved and will not be affected by the migration.

We apologize for any inconvenience caused. If you encounter any problems after the migration, please feel free to contact us.

The Language History Questionnaire (LHQ)

is an important tool for assessing the language background of learners/speakers of multiple languages.

LHQ3 works the best when you use the following features

Thanks to native speaker volunteers and Google’s machine translation technology, LHQ3 has 44 language versions and 23 are proofread carefully.

Four aggregated scores can represent participants’ overall proficiency, dominance, and immersion levels in each of the languages concerned.

LHQ3 automatically generates bar plots, pie charts and violin plots to visualize your data. Users can work with different plots interactively.

Participants are able to access and complete LHQ3 on various platforms, including cell phones, tablets, laptops and desktop computers.
